How Can We Help?
Unauthorized to use this service (Synology)
If you are the owner of a Synology NAS you are able to manage it via a web GUI. It might be possible that you encounter the error that you are “Unauthorized to use this service” when logging in. This article will help you get back into your web GUI. Take note that this is tested with a Synology RackStation RS812+ but it should work for most Synology models.
Steps
Before we start double check that you are using the right IP address, username, and password.
Go to the Synology (synology.com) download site, fill in your hardware, select Desktop Utilities, and download the Synology assistant. Once downloaded install it and open it.
Go to your NAS and locate the reset button. This should be either on the front or on the back near the ethernet port.
Hold the button for 4 seconds until you hear a beep and release.
Now go back to the Synology assistant and click Search. Select your NAS from the list and click Connect.
This opens a browser window. Here you can give admin as the username with no password. Make sure to uncheck the “Remember Me” option. Synology will now prompt you to change the password of your default admin user and voila you have control of your NAS again.
If logging in does not immediately work reload the page or reset the NAS again. It might take a couple of tries before it works.
