If you have multiple Proxmox servers running, you are able to put them together in a cluster. This way all your Proxmox servers can be managed in one place. This also adds the ability to migrate nodes between Proxmox servers. This article shows you how you can set up a cluster via the Proxmox webpage.

Create cluster

Login to your Proxmox server. Navigate to Datacenter – Cluster. By clicking on Create Cluster, you are able to create a new cluster.

Clusters

Now fill in a name for your cluster, and select the primary IP for the cluster. Take note that every server that joins the cluster is still accessible via their own IP.

Create Cluster

Join cluster

To join a cluster you first have to log in to the Proxmox server on which you have created the cluster. Go to Datacenter – Cluster, click on the Join Information button. This opens a window with information about the cluster. Click on Copy Information.

Cluster Join Information

Now, login to the Proxmox server which you want to add to the cluster. Navigate to Datacenter – Cluster, and click on Join Cluster.

Clusters

Because the information to join is copied to your clipboard, you can enter Ctrl-C in the Information field. Proxmox will help you out and fill in the rest of the information. To be able to join the cluster you only have to provide the password.

Join Cluster

Proxmox will now try to communicate with the cluster and add itself. After it has added itself to the cluster you have to refresh the page, since Proxmox changed the HTTPS certificate. If it takes too long to join you can check if the server has been added to the Proxmox server on which you created the cluster.
