This article explains how you have to set up your HP ProLiant DL380 GS before you are able to install an OS on it.

Reset system configuration

If you come across a second-hand server or you want to reset your configuration, boot up the server and press F10. When the options open navigate to Advanced Options. In between the various options you are able to choose for Restore Default System Settings or Restore Settings/Erase Boot Disk. Choose the option which is most applicable to your situation.

RAID configuration

To change the RAID configuration of the drives, boot up the server. Wait until you see the initialization of the RAID controller. If you see this press F8 to open the configuration utility.

If there is a previous configuration present, go ahead and delete it via Delete Logical Drive. Delete the drives that you want to reconfigure, and click F3 if the deletion warning appears.

If you have no configuration, click on Create Logical Drive. This opens a menu with all the available drives. Select the drives you want to add to your configuration using the space bar. Click on Tab to navigate between the menus, and select your desired RAID configuration. When you are satisfied press Enter, which shows you a confirmation box. Click F8 to save the configuration.

After configuring your RAID configuration, you are able to set up a boot volume. Do this by clicking on Select Boot Volume. This shows a window with two storage options. Since you probably want to set your previously setup RAID configuration, select Direct Attached Storage. Now select your desired volume from the menu. When you select your volume, click F8 to acknowledge the new boot volume.
